Microsoft Teams Configure Access to Shared Support Channel

Please provide this article to your Microsoft Administrator to allow access to the shared Teams Support Channel

To allow Microsoft Teams to accept messages from a shared channel on a different tenant, you need to configure Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and Microsoft Teams settings across both your home tenant and the external tenant. Here are the required steps:

✅ 1. Enable Cross-Tenant Access Settings (Microsoft Entra ID)

On both tenants:

  • Go to Microsoft Entra Admin CenterExternal IdentitiesCross-tenant access settings.

  • Select Organizational settings, then add the other tenant by domain or tenant ID.

  • Under B2B direct connect, enable inbound and outbound access for Microsoft Teams and shared channels:

    • Users and groups: Allow access or define specific users/groups.

    • Applications: Ensure Microsoft Teams is allowed.

Tip: You can apply these settings broadly (for all users) or fine-tune access per user group.

✅ 2. Enable Shared Channels in Teams Admin Center

On your tenant:

  • Go to Teams Admin CenterTeams policies.

  • Select or create a policy and make sure:

    • Create shared channels is On

    • Invite external users to shared channels is On

    • Join external shared channels is On

Assign this policy to the relevant users.

✅ 3. External Access and Guest Access (Optional but related)

  • Go to Teams Admin CenterOrg-wide settingsExternal access:

    • Ensure that communication with the other tenant is allowed.

  • Go to Teams Admin CenterOrg-wide settingsGuest access:

    • Although shared channels use B2B direct connect (not guest access), make sure it’s configured properly if you're using guest collaboration in parallel.

✅ 4. Teams Client Configuration

  • Make sure users in both tenants are using Teams clients that support shared channels (Desktop or Web, not mobile for full features).

  • Allow third-party cookies and sign-in across tenants if users experience access issues in browser-based Teams.

✅ 5. Firewall & Network (if applicable)

  • Ensure that your network or firewall doesn’t block Microsoft Teams endpoints or cross-tenant communications.
